Top 5 things to do in Dublin

Earlier this year we went on a weekend trip to Dublin to celebrate my Mom’s birthday and see a city we’d never been to! Having never been before, we wanted to cover all the main tourist bucket list attractions but were also keen on getting a good look at the city itself. Here’s our top 5 things to do in Dublin:

  1. Guinness Storehouse

Let’s get the obvious out of the way… a trip to Dublin is incomplete without a pint of Guinness! The Guinness Storehouse takes you through the beer-making process and other elements such as transport and advertising which all combine together to create the infamous brand. We finished the visit with a pint in the Gravity Bar complete with panoramic city views and we left with our hands full of merchandise to bring home!

  1. Trinity College Old Library: Book of Kells

The Book of Kells is one of the world’s most famous medieval manuscripts from the Dark Ages. The book is displayed in the 18th century Old Library at Trinity College Dublin, which itself is a beautiful building and worth a visit!

  1. Bus tour

If you’re short on time, a bus tour is a great way of seeing lots of key attractions. We bought a 2-day ticket and the route covered all the places we wanted to go, which made travelling around the city much easier (and we learnt a few facts on the way). There are a couple of different options of routes and we found the red route to be the best for us, but I’d definitely recommend checking the routes before making a decision.

  1. Temple bar

Temple bar is a buzzing area full of cafés, theatres, pubs, and restaurants. We found the gem of a restaurant called The Shack which serves really good traditional Irish food in a very cute, old-fashioned setting.

  1. Get lost around the city

This one isn’t specifically an attraction but in a city like Dublin it’s good to have an explore outside of the tourist areas. We spent a fair bit of time wandering around the high street, relaxing in parks and having drinks in pubs and I’d recommend doing the same!
